Voluntary Recognition Process

on Thu Jun 10 2021

This morning, the Brennan Center notified Brennan Center United that they will work with our union towards a voluntary recognition agreement. We are pleased with their quick response and appreciate the reaffirmation of the organization’s commitment to democracy, liberty and justice.

It is a fundamental right of working people to collectively bargain for fair wages, improved working conditions, and other benefits. Not only do unions help organizations close racial, gender, and other equity gaps, but they also give workers a means to advocate for themselves and their colleagues. Furthermore, they help set standards for fair and improved treatment for workers at peer organizations nation-wide. We are appreciative of the broad support we have received from peer unions and are excited to pursue these benefits for the workers of the Brennan Center.

Agreeing to work towards a voluntary recognition agreement is an important first step for Brennan Center leadership and demonstrates to employees, supporters, donors, and the public at large that the organization truly lives its values. We look forward to seizing this opportunity for improvement and unity, rather than division. Furthermore, we are eager to contribute to the decades-long legacy of democratic workplace representation in the United States.
